Merzouga offers camel rides in the Saharan desert. You’ll stop to watch the sunset from the top of a tall dune. When you finally get to the camp, it mixes a hotel’s grandeur with a nomadic camp’s simplicity. Take in the rhythm of the Berber drums while staring up at the stars under a wide open sky. Your tent in the desert is where you’ll have dinner.
Get up early to see the dawn in the middle of the desert. After breakfast, ride camels back to Merzouga to explore the region. Beautiful features of the area include magnificent oasis, natural lakes, mines, and fossil locations.
We’re going to an old eyeliner mine through a gravel route. To study the nomads, we go to their hand-made tents. As you enjoy your tea, learn more about their way of life. Our next stop is the Khamlia village, where we’ll see performances of Gnaoua music and dancing. Its residents are primarily from Sub-Saharan Africa.
We’ll take a stroll through the palm tree forest after lunch before making a short trip to Flamingo Lake, a wild lake in Merzouga. Dinner will be served at your hotel.
We leave the desert to see Rissani town, the previous seat of the Tafilalet authority. Rissani is still a key trading center in the region, with a lively souk most days of the week.
We fly to Erfoud to visit one of the marble factories after visiting the Souk. Then, via the Touroug and Tinjdad palm plantations, we go to the Todra Gorges. The Todra River’s flow has carved a beautiful tunnel through the mountains, creating a valley with soaring red rock walls.
After lunch, we go via Boumalne Dades to the Dades valley. It is impossible to avoid stopping at the “monkey fingers” mountain range with a sight of the Dades valley. In the end, eat and stay overnight in a nearby hotel.
After breakfast, we travel to Kalaa Magouna to see the Rose Valley. Locals sell goods with roses on them at the Rose Festival in May. Our next visit is Skoura’s palm orchards. We arrive to Ouarzazate, commonly known as the Desert Gate, at last. We’ll tour the film studios where renowned motion pictures were created.
We make our way to Ait Benhaddou’s Kasbah. It’s a fortified village that has been put on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Movies have also portrayed the Kasbah. On our trip to Marrakech, we cross the Tizi-N-Tichka bridge and the magnificent High Atlas Mountains. There will be frequent lunch breaks and picture opportunities at interesting places. Finally, we arrive in Marrakech and spend the night in a Riad.
