Itinerary of the Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Benhaddou – Telouat Kasbah – Ouarzazate

Getting picked up early from the airport or your Marrakech lodging is the first step in the Desert Tour from Marrakech. Continue on to the picturesque High Atlas mountains after passing the Tizi-N-Tichka pass.

Then, we go to the famed Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a walled village that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kasbah has also appeared in a number of films and television series, most notably Game of Thrones. Then, we head to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gate of the Desert,” to have dinner and stay the night.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Rose valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara

Following breakfast, we’ll pick you up and drive you to one of the studios where a lot of movies have been made before making our way to Rose Valley. A Rose Festival is celebrated in May, during which people sell their handicrafts. We next proceed to the Todra Gorges.

We then travel through Touroug, Tinjdad, and Erfoud. Then we arrive in the Sahara desert of Merzouga. You will transfer on camels to travel the dusty desert. To witness the sunset, you will be escorted to the top of a towering dune.

Proceed to the camp and dance around the campfire under the big open sky of stars to Berber drum music. Dinner and an overnight stay in a desert tent are included.

Day 3: Merzouga – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove

A must-see in the morning is the stunning sunrise over the desert, followed by a traditional Moroccan breakfast. The driver will be there to pick you up when you get back in Merzouga on camels. The day is spent discovering Merzouga.

There are also dunes, natural lakes, mines, and fossil sites nearby, as well as a magnificent oasis. These are excellent locations for a variety of outdoor activities.

In Merzouga, we begin our adventure by driving off-road to an ancient eyeliner mine. We subsequently saw nomads in their makeshift tents. While discovering their culture, have a cup of Berber tea! The Khamlia hamlet will be our next stop, where you will hear Gnaoua music.

We locate the palm tree forest after lunch. Flamingo Lake, a natural lake near Merzouga, is our next stop. Stay in a motel the night after supper.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes

We leave the desert and travel to Rissani, Tafilalet’s ancient capital. Rissani, which contains a large souk, is an important economic centre in the region. We proceed to Erfoud after touring the Rissani souk and visiting one of the petrified marble factories.

We take a trip along the Ziz River. We come to a standstill to enjoy the panoramic view of the Ziz valley. After eating in Midelt, we make our way to the cedar forest, where the Barbary Macaques reside. We travel to Ifrane, a town famed for its chilly weather, snow, and alpine-style homes.

When in Fes, we will drop you off at your hotel.

Day 5: Fes City Tour

Following breakfast, we will see the city’s attractions with a local guide. The well-preserved medieval Medina, which is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and the Royal Palace entrance are our first stops of the day.

You will go to the Blue Gate, also known as Bab Boujloud, which is the gateway of the old Medina. Entering the Medina will allow you to see the Quaraouin mosque, the oldest university in the world, the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najarine fountain, the tanneries, and more.

After that, we depart Medina to visit the Jewish district also known as “the Mellah”. We drive to a historic fortress in the afternoon for a panoramic view over the Medina and the city of Fes. Spend the night in a Riad.

Day 6: Transfer to the airport

After breakfast, we’ll take you to the airport to end our Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech.
